I know you will all be glad when this is over, and we can all get back outside and back to work and specially to get me off the computer! With everything changing daily in response to the pandemic, this seems to be the best way to keep people informed.
About a minute after Jackie dropped the water bills in the mail with the newsletter explaining that the Food Pantry Truck would still be coming to Alexandria, the Food Pantry was forced to remove the Alexandria stop. I called the food pantry and spoke with the Executive Director of the Licking County Food Pantry Chuck Moore. Chuck proved to be the kind and caring person you would expect to hold such a position. He assured me that they didn’t have any choice given the circumstances, and that the minute the crisis is over the truck will resume its Alexandria stop. Furthermore, he explained that our residents can go to the Johnstown Food Pantry located at 140 Pratt Street every Thursday from 10:AM until noon. At the Johnstown Market people can get dry goods in addition to the produce that was on the truck, caned goods and such. In addition, anyone in need with children can get diapers and formula at the Newark location. With so many not working because of the virus I believe this resource will be vital to a lot of us. Signing up is easy, Chuck said the best way to sign up is to give him a call at 740-344-7401. I have attached a flier that better explains some of the services the Food Pantry provides. Mayor, Jim Jasper. Village of Alexandria 740-739-0698 Please share this with any friends or neighbors that may not receive this alert. We will get through this! Mayor, Jim Jasper. Village of Alexandria 740-739-0698 It is apparent that many of us are not going to get our census forms; however, it is still vital that we complete the 2020 Census. Turns out after holding on the phone an hour or so for a census associate to pick up, that it is very easy to do even without the form. The easiest way is probably going to be online. Simply type in https://my2020census.gov or click the link now and get it out of the way.
When you get to the place that ask you to enter your 12 digit ID number just click the tab below that says “I do not have an ID number” from there on follow the instructions. I did mine earlier today while I kept a census worker on the phone “in case” I had a problem, and it took me 5 minutes. I did my mothers just prior to sending this email to make certain that I could do hers and be sure of the information I am sharing with you. Experienced now, Mom’s only took me 4 minutes. The reason I wanted to be certain that I could do my mothers is to know for sure that I could ask you to help each other. We are going to all need to do it online or by phone or in person when a census worker comes to the door. I will put the phone number at the end of this. Did I mention I held an hour to get an associate? Without use of the library we will need to help each other; I will put this in the next newsletter as well and anyone that needs help can call me on the phone and I will complete it for you. The most personal information in the questionnaire is the birth dates of everyone living in the home. Most everyone that gets this email will have no problem getting it done, but maybe you have a relative or neighbor that you know does not have a computer you could help. Or be ready for them to call you when the next water bill comes out. If anyone would like to do it by telephone, use the restroom, fix a snack and call 1-844-330-2020. Thanks to all of you! As always, Stay Focused, United and Alive, 6’ apart. Save our Village
April 1, 2020 You are not having Déjà vu, it seems hard to believe that it was over two years ago, late 2017 until May 8th, 2018 we were fighting to “Save our Village” from un-incorporation. In 2019 we took steps to “Save our Village” from bankruptcy. As imperative as both of those were, they pale in comparison to the 2020 Coronavirus Covid-19, as we are now fighting to save our lives! I want to explain for any residents new to Alexandria or St Albans Township that when I speak of Alexandria or Alexandrians I am talking about the community of Alexandria, more than ever before we are all in this together, regardless of whether you live inside or outside of the corporation, we all call Alexandria home. I am writing this newsletter Monday evening, March 30th and there are currently 19 confirmed cases of the virus in Licking county. We have been gaining a couple cases a day for the past week, I fear that by the time you receive this newsletter those numbers will have risen drastically. How well we survive this virus depends solely on what we do now. Effective March 21rst we closed our Village office. We agreed to hold no council meetings unless absolutely necessary, and in that case, it will be a virtual meeting with people being able to participate in the meeting electronically from home. March 27th, we closed the playgrounds at the school and the park. There isn’t anyway to keep the equipment sanitized and the risk is just to great! I promise the second it’s safe I’ll hang the swings and cut down the caution tape. To thank our young people for their patience I’ll put new nets on the basketball hoops! I can’t encourage you enough, to follow the guidelines. Wash your hands often, don’t touch your face, limit trips and maintain 6 feet between yourself and others. This does not mean that we need to stay inside, there is no problem walking together “6 feet apart”, bicycling anything to keep busy safely. Hopefully this will be over in a few weeks and when we win, I’ll treat the community to hot dogs at the park. I don’t know how much 2,000 hotdogs and buns will cost, but we will find a way to make it happen! In the meanwhile, to help us stay Focused, United and Alive, we will fly our holiday flags (baring severe weather) 7 days a week, 24 hours a day! The 2020 Census is one of the few things not delayed. Every household will have the option of responding online, by mail, or by phone. March 12 - 20, 2020 everyone will be mailed an invitation to respond online, some of those may include forms you can mail in if you would prefer. March 16 - 24, 2020 reminder letters will be sent out. April 8-16, 2020 Reminder letters with paper questionnaires will be mailed. If you do not wish to do the census online, you will be able to fill out and return this questionnaire. There will also be an option to call in and do the census by telephone. Adkins Disposal You may have seen a notice on your latest trash bill that a cost increase is coming. This does not apply to those of us in the Village, that was added to all of Adkins bills but our contract price in the Village will not be changing. Food Pantry The food pantry that qualifying residents count on has been moved to the Methodist Church. The Licking County Food Pantry truck will be at the Church every Thursday from 10:AM until noon. This was done to help protect our first responders from any unnecessary exposure to the virus. Coping Skills Being stuck at home, in many cases unemployed, nowhere to go and nothing to do will challenge the best of us. Bored children, warm weather and no toilet paper will require us all to sharpen our coping skills. We must remind ourselves often that this is temporary, and our lives depend on it. There will be times when we might need to take 10 deep breathes and go for a walk, but I know we can do this. United we stand, 6 feet apart we’ll win! I’ll see if I can find some ice cream to go with those hotdogs! Sincerely, Mayor Jim Jasper [email protected] 740-739-0698 |
